Missions

Most of the plots here will be player-run. There will be the occasional gamewide mod plot, but for the most part, you’re more than welcome to make your own fun.

Each plot, or mission, should follow a fairly simple setup: a certain number of characters are traveling to a certain dimension to fix a certain problem. Beyond that, and a few exceptions, you’re welcome to run whatever kind of mission you’d like with whomever you’d like.

Dimensions

You may use any setting from any pre-existing canon, and you may use any point in time in that setting. Settings may be reused - for example, if a mission in the Star Wars dimension happens around the events of Return of the Jedi, another mission can happen during the events of The Force Awakens or A New Hope or any other point on that timeline. The paradox affects space and time, after all.

If you are using the home dimension of someone else’s character, please get their permission beforehand and/or include them in the mission. Do not, under any circumstances, use a mission as an excuse to infomod another character without their player’s permission.

Most dimensions can be used. Dimensions that cannot be used are original creations, unpublished tabletop settings, and settings from fanmade canons. In much the same way that you can’t app your own tabletop character or your OC from your novel, you also can’t use the setting from your campaign, or your novel, or your fanmade spinoff. Additionally, Cloverfield canon dimensions - Cloverfield, 10 Cloverfield Lane, the Cloverfield Paradox, and the Cloverfield manga - are all off-limits for missions. If you have a question about whether a dimension is usable, contact the mods.

Goals

Your mission within a dimension could be just about anything, within reason. Some potential missions include:

  • A big bad/political figure/celebrity/etc winds up in a different dimension and causes upheaval

  • An item winds up in the wrong dimension and needs to be extracted

  • Former and/or current agents getting stuck and needing rescuing

  • Two dimensions collapsed on each other and need sorting out

Feel free to come up with any other mission goals, within reason. Nothing apocalyptic - anything big enough to completely destroy a dimension or cause the destruction of other/linked dimensions is mod plot level, not player plot level. The Cloverfield monsters and parasites also cannot be used for player plots. If you have any questions about your proposed plot or would like suggestions, or if you’d like the mods to randomize a setting and objective for you, please contact the mods.

Be sure to post the appropriate content warnings on your mission log - a mission set in The Last of Us is going to play out very differently from one set in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

When you start a mission, please note it in a comment to the Mission Log. When the mission ends, or if you need to handwave the result, please follow up under your initial comment on the mission log.

Parameters

Feel free to put as many or as few limitations on missions as you’d like, provided they fit with the mission’s setting. How many of the rules of the dimension apply to visiting characters, if any? Are nonhuman characters forced to become human or vice versa? Do people with powers lose them or have them diminished? Do people without powers gain them? Or do characters simply arrive as they are regardless of how well they fit into the mission’s dimension?

Passage of time between dimensions is also a parameter. For example, characters could be gone on a mission for three weeks but return to the nexus only ten minutes after they’d left. Please make sure to detail what the passage of time will be in your log.
