FAQ

What kind of game is this?

The Daisychain Paradox is a mission-based game that will rely heavily on player plots. In game, characters travel between dimensions with the goal of fixing the damage done by a particle accelerator malfunction that damaged dimensional integrity and allowed dimensions to smash into one another. Players are encouraged to plot and run their own missions and participate in gamewide mod plots when they occur. Additionally, there is a nexus area for more slice of life and character bonding threads. The game will be mostly player plots and allow a wide range of creativity - think of it as a structured sandbox more than a formal game.

What’s it based on?

The Daisychain Paradox is a sequel to the 2008 LJ RP Project Daisychain and is heavily inspired by the events of the Cloverfield movie franchise, namely Cloverfield and The Cloverfield Paradox.

Do I need to know anything about Daisychain or Cloverfield to play?

Nope! Everything you need to know is explained on the history post, and everything else is just details you can get from talking to players who were in Daisychain and/or watching the Cloverfield Paradox on Netflix.

Is this a jamjar?

Nope! Your character is a volunteer/recruit and can return to the dimension they came from to rest/refuel/whatever whenever they’d like and return to the Nexus whenever they’d like, provided it’s not in the middle of a mission.

What if my character doesn’t want to be here?

Then they can leave. CFP-DNR is only recruiting willing people; nobody is being held captive or forced on missions against their will. CFP-DNR is recruiting people on a mission to repair the multiverse; if your character is the type that wouldn’t want to participate or wouldn’t trust the organization enough to join, then CFP-DNR wouldn’t have successfully recruited them.

What happens if my character causes trouble?

If it’s arguments with another character or mild acting out, they may get scolded or briefly taken off active duty; regardless of what the solution is, the goal is to solve the problem as quickly and thoroughly as possible. For larger scale trouble - causing a disturbance in mainland Manhattan, deliberately causing the failure of a mission, etc - they’ll be sent home. CFP-DNR has no time for a character who wants to cause trouble instead of help fix it, which is why heroic characters will be a better fit for this game than villainous characters.

What if I want to play a villain?

...hold on to that thought for a while.

Can I app a dead character?

No, because they’re dead.

To give a slightly more helpful answer: while CFP-DNR has some pretty fantastic technology, they don’t have anything that can prevent death. Characters should be apped from a point in time before their death, even if that point in time is only hours or minutes before. CFP-DNR can’t work miracles, but medical technology is certainly a thing.

What happens if my character dies on a mission?

If you die in the game, you die for real. Unless your character has some form of revival/reincarnation/regeneration mechanic that works outside of their home dimension, or is traveling with someone who has a revival mechanic, it’s game over for them. They’re dead, and that version of them (OU or CRAU) cannot be apped again.

(Please don’t kill your characters without putting some real thought into the consequences, is what we’re saying. Especially don’t do it if you’re playing someone from a popular canon.)

What’s AC like?

Activity check is five comments per character per month. This can be in a single thread or spread across multiple threads.

What if my character requires special circumstances to live/function/etc?

Talk to the mods; we’ll help you figure out a solution to be ICly implemented.

What’s the OOC:IC time ratio?

3:1, so 3 OOC weeks is one IC week. This is based on time passage in the Nexus; time passage in any other dimension is up to you. For example, a mission could last for three weeks, but two days would have only passed in the Nexus while the characters were on mission, or your character could be in the Nexus for a month and then go home to find out only five minutes have passed.

I want to play a CRAU character! When can I app them from?

CRAU characters have two timeline options: they can either be apped from the latest point in the game from which they came (so the point at which you dropped them or the game ended/stopped), or if the game reached its narrative conclusion and sent its characters home/had a drop mechanic that sent dropped characters home, they can come from later in their canon timeline with their CRAU intact. For example, if you took MCU Tony Stark from the end of Iron Man 3 and played him in a game that eventually sent him home, you could pick up that same CRAU Tony Stark from the end of Age of Ultron - essentially, the events of the game would fit in his timeline between Iron Man 3 and Age of Ultron, and you would assume Age of Ultron played out essentially as it did in canon.

What if I want to give my CRAU character a different ending than the one they had in their previous game?

We really prefer that you stick to what happened in your character’s previous game and established canon; that said, we also understand that games don’t always go as planned for a multitude of reasons. If you really want to AU your AU, please come to the mods with an explanation why and a plan as to how you plan to AU things. We can’t guarantee you’ll get what you want, but we will listen and consider.
